Bress Gold Chook Shiraz 2014

Opens initially with overt but attractive oak spice and reticent red and dark fruits. Press the nose hard to the glass and the deeper notes of fruit spice and alcohol derived lift add interest. The palate doesn’t suffer quite the same shyness but is very focused and finely structured from start to finish. Dominated by red fruits, with the black fruits only just ripe, it does not come off s .....

Chalmers Montevecchio Bianco 2012

A co-fermented blend of Vermentino, Fiano and a kiss of Moscato giallo this is fantastic. Dry White but with a great floral / grassy nose and brilliant length. An intelligent combination of textural Vermentino, line and length from Fiano all with an aromatic lift from the Moscato.  This goes to the top of my most drinkable entertaining whites list… Huon Hooke’s ‘ .....

Chalmers Montevecchio Moscato 2013

And along comes Montevecchio Moscato – made from Moscato Giallo grapes – the same traditional 5.5% alcohol as Moscato d’Asti as well. They’ve got it so right; the balance of Acidity and elegant ethereal fruit. Sherbet, elderflower and honeysuckle dance around the palate and the wine finishes with clean mouth-watering acid and a touch of Frizzante. Bravo

Chalmers Montevecchio Rosso 2011

It’s hard no to be seduced by the Côtes du Rhône style of wine, but it’s almost impossible to say no to this Rhône-ish twist. Co-fermented Heathcote Shiraz, Lagrien, Nero d’Avola and Sagrantino can be simply described as fantastic.   Vibrant raspberry nose and minerals from the Heathcote Shiraz, power and savoury meaty notes from Nero d’Avola an .....

Chalmers Nero d'Avola 2012

92 Points Wine Front
88 Points Wine Front

"The 2011 Nero d’Avola is from the first vintage at the new Heathcote vineyard and is Chalmers’ second dry red wine from the variety. It’s deliberately made in a young drinking, lifted red - fruit style reminiscent of the Cerasuolo wines. This wine shows a vibrant fruits-of-the-forest and blueberry nose with pretty rosehip aromatics. The medium - bodied palate marries sa .....

Chalmers Sangiovese 2011

Of all the varieties imported by Chalmers in the late 1990s, Sangiovese was the variety that got the most attention. There were 14 different selections of Sangiovese in that shipment, selected from various sites around Tuscany and with quite vastly differing characteristics. After trialling these clones at the original Euston site, and making wines from a good percentage of them, one superior cl .....

Chalmers Vermentino 2012

90 Points Wine Companion

"The Chalmers family are increasingly important for diversification of Australian wine and continue, with their suite of ‘other varieties’ from Heathcote, to impress. The extra age on this wine is only a bonus – there tends to be a ‘use by date’ mentality out there in consumer (and trade to some extent) land where aromatic whites need to be of same year to be & .....

Graillot Syrah 2013

The interplay of warm- and cool-climate characters is quite beautiful. Pepper and spice notes abound but in a context of fresh, ripe, blackberry and black cherry flavour. Licks of fennel, smoke and violet are part of the show and there's a hum of fine tannin from at least the mid-palate onwards. It gives up the flavours but then draws them all back in; controlled; classical. 96 Point

Graillot Syrah No.2 2014

95 Points Campbell Mattinson

"The hits keep coming, This is another fine, sophisticated release. Black pepper and clove notes thread through a myriad of both savoury and fruit-filled characters: licorice, black cherry, meat, green herbs, peppercorn and violets among them. It flows in decisive manner towards a structured, spice-riddled finish. It will live for many years but, being so well balanced, drinks well young.&quo .....

Jasper Hill Georgia's Paddock Viognier 2012

“After the blockbuster of the 2009 first release, this wine is a more delicate expression of typical Viognier characteristics and is better-off for it – viscous mouthfeel, ripe apricot and peach stone-fruit aromas and flavours, great balance and length, perfect food wine and low in alcohol.”  Ron Laughton

Shadowfax Shiraz 2012

"Black fruits, Satsuma plums and a hint of cocoa follow onto a palate. The tannins are rich and velvety, adding structure and length to a beautifully weighted, bright palate. This is a fine example of cool grown, carefully handled Victorian Shiraz, and will age with distinction for many years." Winemaker's Note

Twofold Perdu Shiraz 2007

The 2007 Perdu Shiraz is a first release for us. It was the last of our contract produced Shiraz and was ‘lost’ slightly in the excitement of us beginning to make the wines ourselves in the 2008 vintage. It was also a lighter vintage for Heathcote and considered average, so there was no rush for us to release the wine and we decided to give it extended barrel aging, over three years in .....

Vinea Marson Nebbiolo 2009

Vinea Marson is a leading contender in the Australian-nebbiolo stakes. There’s a fair amount of mint/eucalypt here which, admittedly, mars the “I’m drinking an Italian grape” experience a little, grounding you as these flavours do squarely in the “I’m drinking Aussie red” playground. But that aside, I did find this a very enjoyable, and satisfying, wine .....

Vinea Marson Rose 2012

93 Points Wine Companion

"Pale copper-salmon colour but looks bright in the glass, Lively aromatics lead to a dry, spicy, autumnal style with just-enough jubey fruit to give it both flesh and general appeal. Alcohol shows fractionally on the finish but all-round it's a classy release." 93 Points Wine Companion REVIEWS ON SOME PREVIOUS VINTAGES Vinea Marson Rose 2010 The pale salmon colour means barrel ferm .....

Vinea Marson Sangiovese 2011

In terms of varietal character – emphasis on the word character – this release from Vinea Marson is spot on. Really nutty. And savoury. Really tickles the sangiovese spot. Has a light cherry and animale character that is very attractive. Touch of boysenberried oomph through the mid palate with chalky, nutty, filligreed tannin running through the finish. 100 percent delicious drinking .....

Vinea Marson Syrah 2010

91 Points Wine Front

"Indeed complexity is its trump card. It doesn’t have a lot of flavour intensity though arguably it has enough. Flavours of leather and meat, bitter herbs, violets, dark cherries, woodsmoke. Fair bit going on. Juicy for the most part but then tannic through the finish; balanced overall. This should mature well over time without ever quite being top shelf." 91 Points Wine Front&n .....

Vinea Marson Viognier 2012

"The quality of viognier in Australia is on the steady rise and proof positive lives here in this release from Vinea Marson. Stellar viognier. Textural, smoky, taut and terrific. Stones and spice, grilled nuts and stonefruit. Smells great and tastes great. Have I ever mouthed these words before? This is a viognier I’m keen to buy. It’s soft but it has a shelly, gritty charact .....
