Product Description

A beautifully layered, even perfumed nose of plum, underbrush and very ripe red currant merges into seductively textured but firm and powerful flavors blessed with an abundance of structure-buffering extract on the mouth coating finish. This is a notably robust effort that is given shape by the very firm but buried tannins and I like the excellent balance. This big-bodied effort really fans out on the gorgeously long finish and it should be capable of aging very well over the next 12 to 15 years.

Lifted, sulphidey nose – not without its attractions! Sweet and round and Charmes-ish. Real energy here stops the sweet fruit from losing focus. Fine boned. Long. Bravo!

Producer note: Romain Taupenot describes 2009 as "beginning with a very cold and rigorous winter. Otherwise, the growing season was clement save for an early hail storm that reduced yields somewhat. Overall though yields were generous and even the hailed parcels produced well. We began picking on the 11th of September and the fruit was extremely clean, indeed there was almost no sorting necessary. Sugars were also quite strong as potential alcohols ranged from 12.5 to 13.9% and I would estimate the average at around 13.2%. The skins were thick and I didn't notice much in the way of qualitative differences between the fruit in the Côte de Nuits versus that in the Côte de Beaune. It also helps that there were a lot of shot berries as that adds a bit of extra concentration. The malos were highly variable but in the end our analyses indicated that the post-malo pHs ranged from 3.45 to 3.55, which is pretty much ideal. Overall, 2009 is a very strong vintage that people will love as it will be approachable young but age well too if desired."
