Product Description

"Composed of Shiraz 60%, Mataro 25% and Grenache 15%, the 2010 Heinrich Shiraz Mataro Grenache has a medium to deep garnet color and exudes aromas of dried mulberries and red plum preserves with hints of Provencal herbs, black and white pepper and dusty earth. It is a highly structured style of wine with a firm foundation of grainy tannins and very crisp acid freshness to frame muscular fruit flavors through a very good, persistent finish. Drink it now to 2017+."

"These Barossa GSM/SMG/MGS/SGM etc. blends, when they’re good, are about as good as the Barossa gets. At least for my tastes.

Raspberry, blackberry, coal dust, layers of spice, dried mint, liquorice, warm bricks – all fresh and supple and delicious. It’s medium bodied with perfect fresh berried acidity, ultra fine silky tannin, a gentle glycerol feel and a delicious mix of berries and earthy flavour. Even has a kind of ‘minerality’. Flows through the mouth and runs very long. Beautiful."

"Bright crimson-purple; what a pleasure to taste this blend at such a modest alcohol level, which has provided the vibrant and fresh display of plum, spice and fragrant red fruits variously contributed by the components, with some very old vines providing part of the wine."

REVIEWS ON SOME PREVIOUS VINTAGES

Rolf Binder Heinrich Shiraz Mataro Grenache 2009
A tribute to Rolf Heinrich Binder Snr, this has become a flagship of the Rolf Binder range. Another very complex blend from the warmer 2009 vintage. Dried red berries/ red cherry, plum, wild blackberry and spiced dark chocolate. A little fuller than usual, it practically spills out of the mouth with its thick concentrated flavours of plum, cherry, blackberry and sweet spices. All three varieties are speaking clearly in the blend leading to a greater level of complexity.

"Good colour; the bouquet is arresting, with an unusual oriental spice character, possibly from the shaved and re-fired American oak barrels, less likely from the 20% grenache component; there is also a rich array of licorice, plum cake and dark berry fruits, the tannins ample and ripe."
