"Lance Redgwell is a fast ascending star of Martinborough and his 2011s are his finest reds yet. Slightly inky deep red due to no filtration or fining. 2011 was a long even ripening season and Lance took advantage of this by hanging the fruit a little longer. The result is a more Martinborough in expression than the 2009 but nowhere near the dry red style that many producers favour. Deep red fruited nose of dried rose petal, light spice, a hint of pepper, garden plum, dried strawberry, and stony minerality. The palate is medium bodied with plum and red cherry fruits, which although very ripe are not sweet. There is very pronounced minerality here too. The tannins are super fine and lightly grainy. The overall silky nature of the palate and its medium weight are deceptive because there is excellent length and drive here with the concentration and structure for a decade in bottle. A deep but savoury style.
