Product Description

This is a drop dead gorgeous style of Moscato, made using the classic passito method of drying the fruit on the vine prior to fermetation. This is a wine that has been celebrated throughout history. It was first mentioned by the Romans, who named it after the bees that were attracted to the Moscato Reale grapes (api is Latin for bees), and much later it became, apparently (!) a favourite of many Popes. After harvest, the grapes are pressed and left to ferment slowly for approximately 20-25 days. The wine is then matured for two years in large casks before release. It's very luscious, redolant of orange blossom and the local zagara honey. There is a long, clean finish infused with wild flowers and savoury herbs. In Molise, this style of wine is drunk with patés or ripe cheeses as opposed to desserts.

Di Majo Norante's Moscato Reale Apianae is often one of the most compelling sweet wines in Italy, as it is again in 2009. Tangerine blossoms, orange peel, flowers, mint and minerals are just some of the nuances that flow from this elegant, refined wine. The Apinae was aged in neutral oak and carries just 94 grams of residual sugar, making it a moderately sweet wine that doesn't tire the palate. Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate #195
