Product Description

"Bright, dark red. Aromas of cherry, flowers, spices and pepper are lifted by a pungent limestone topnote. Juicy, sappy and sweet; more evolved and showy today owing to the earlier malo. The building tannins are firm but elegant and not at all dry, with the finish delivering lovely length and grip. I like the influence of the stems here."

20 per cent whole bunch, 20 per cent new oak. This is Corton's lowest-lying grand cru, with the Domaine farming 1.45 hectares. It is a walled site, i.e., a clos, located on the lower eastern slopes, close to Ladoix. The Domaine's holdings were planted in the late 1970s and early 1980s. From iron-rich clay soils Maréchaudes is always the most forward and packed with delicious, cherry fruit - in 2011 this is exactly the case. This will be the first of the Domaine's Cortons to give up it's charms and the 2011 also benefits from the very low sulphur regimen (as do all the wines) rendering the wine surprisingly fruit-driven, aromatic, softly textured and 'open for business'. It will still cellar very well for 5-10 years.

"A trace of wood sets off the ripe, fresh and spicy nose of red cherry, earth and a hint of the sauvage. There is excellent verve and plenty of muscle to the focused and moderately powerful middle weight flavors that possess fine depth and impressive length. This is not an especially big wine by the standards of the appellation but it is well balanced and should reward a decade or so of cellar time."
