Product Description

"As the popularity for this wine grows, the percentage of bought in fruit in this wine grows aswell.  We are constantly out talking to grape growers here in the Tamar Valley, searching for fruit.  In 2013 we were lucky enough to find three new vineyards, all with older vines and dedicated growers.  This wine is 70% from purchased grapes and 30% from our own vineyards.

The fruit is wild fermented after a brief cold soak and then plunged twice a day until the ferment has finished.  It is then basket pressed and put into oak (only French) for a period of nine months.  This year, due to the quality of the fruit, has seen us use a small amount (10%) of new oak for this wine, which allows us to trial some new barrel makers, as well as complementing the fruit we have sourced.

The 2013 is a little darker than the 2012, and a bit more robust.  It moves back to the darker fruits, black cherry and hints of plum.  The palate is firm and textured with characters of mushroom.  A long persistent finish completes this wine of which we are very happy with." Winemaker's Note

REVIEWS ON SOME PREVIOUS VINTAGES

Stoney Rise Pinot Noir 2012
"Bright, clear and striking purple-crimson; the fragrant, almost flowery, bouquet leads into a delicious palate of morello and red cherries; the mouthfeel is positively juicy, bringing a touch of spice, and even pepper, into the finish. Great drinking now, but will hold."
94 Points Wine Companion

Stoney Rise Pinot Noir 2011
"Light colour by Tasmanian standards, but proves once again colour can deceive with pinot; it has abundant red and black cherry fruit, and a touch of mint, cradled by perfectly weighted and supple tannins that play through to the long finish."
