A blend of dry grown Shiraz, Cabernet, Merlot, Malbec and Pinot Noir, the Douglas is made without any acid or yeast additions and has spent 2 years in a combination of French oak barriques and puncheons. Like it's namesake - it is named after Sir James Douglas (also known as the Black Douglas), Scottish warlord and chief protagonist in the Battle of Bannockburn - this is a wine with a hell of a lot of charisma and great presence. From a stellar Bannockburn vintage this is the Douglas we have been waiting for; savoury aromas of earth smoke and nutmeg and a mixture of bramble, red berry and blackberry fruit intensity; the palate finishes with a silky texture and wads of depth. The first post-drought Douglas and the delicious shape of things to come.

"It's a pinot-fanciers cabernet blend. It's all stalk and sap, smoke and sweet garden herbs - before more fruit-driven notes of cherry, plum and kirsch waltz their way in. Nutty overtones are present all the way through, as are notes of game and tobacco. The flavours and textures are on for young and old; it's a delicious wine, in its own way, though even lovers of this kind of ride will need to be in the right mood."
