Product Description

In normal years, Stuart comes from small batches of the best fruit from Bannockburn's oldest Pinot vines. These 'sticks' were planted in 1976 and are situated beside the SRH block, in the aptly named Olive Tree Hill vineyard (ten or so majestic olive trees dominate the skyline here). 2014, however, was not a normal vintage. Windy conditions at flowering resulted in a very poor fruit set, and a consequently tiny crop. As a result, Bannockburn felt they did not have enough fruit from the two close planted Pinot vineyards - Serré and De La Terre - for single site bottlings, so it all ended up on this Bannockburn 'super' Pinot. The final wine has roughly 80% whole bunch influence and was raised for twelve months in Remond Tronçais barrels (30% new) before being racked into older oak for the remaining seven months.
