Product Description

"A really beautiful bottling of Cavalotto's Langhe Nebbiolo. Succulently ripe and deep, with an intense mouth perfume of dried violet and dark cherries, wild strawberries and undergrowth, a silky, mouth-filling texture, and super fine tannins keeping the whole thing racy and refreshing. Deep and long and simply too good for its classification. The quality makes sense when you know the background of the wine. Firstly, the fruit is 100% Castiglione Falletto Nebbiolo and so could be labelled as Barolo. One sip and you wonder why the Cavallotto's don't sell this as Barolo! The reason they don't is simple: they need to produce a Nebbiolo Langhe for their markets and yet the only Nebbiolo vines they own are in Barolo. So they must "fashion" a Nebbiolo from these vines. To be specific, the grapes come from both younger, sub-25 year old vines in the Bricco Boschis and Vignolo crus as well as 50-60 year old vines from two smaller Estate plots in the Codana and Pernanno crus also in Castiglione. Again, here is a wine that offers the kind of dense fruit and flowing smoothness that can only come from ripe fruit and low yields. It sees 17-18 months in botti before being bottled without filtration. As we have already seen from Massolino et al, 2011 is a stunner of a year for Nebbiolo in the Langhe and this is true to form. It offers wonderful perfume and layer upon layer of completely seductive, sweet and complex Nebbiolo fruit in the mouth. A fabulous introduction to Cavallotto Barolo." Winemaker's Note

REVIEWS ON SOME PREVIOUS VINTAGES

Cavallotto Langhe Nebbiolo 2011
"An exotic, totally alluring wine, Cavallotto's 2011 Langhe Nebbiolo offers up a compelling melange of dried roses, herbs, licorice and dark red cherries. An intense, powerful wine, the 2011 is also surprisingly rich. Far from an easygoing wine, the Langhe Nebbiolo delivers serious quality and complexity, both at an exceedingly fair price."

Cavallotto Langhe Nebbiolo 2010
The Langhe Nebbiolo is bottled from declassified, mainly younger portions of the Barolo Bricco Boschis, so it could be labelled as Barolo. That it isn’t speaks volumes about the approach of the Cavallotto family. Here is a wine that offers the kind of dense fruit and flowing smoothness that can only come from ripe fruit and low yields. It sees 17-18 months in botti, before being bottled without filtration. 2010 is a brilliant year for Langhe Nebb in general and this compact, deep and sublimely textured Nebbiolo is crafted to rouse and satisfy the senses in equal measure.

“Cavallotto’s 2010 Langhe Nebbiolo is endowed with serious depth and richness, all backed up by the formidable structure of the vintage. Racy and vibrant, the 2010 bursts from the glass with sweet red berries, cinnamon and freshly cut flowers. This is a gorgeous wine that over-delivers for the money. If given some air, the 2010 can be enjoyed today, but it definitely needs food. I very much like the intensity here. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020.” 89 points, Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate #203
