"On twitter yesterday, Dean Hewitson (I think), noted that the old vine Mataro was picked yesterday – April 10 – late ripening variety. They also have Mataro planted at Henschke’s Hill of Grace vineyard: it only ripens every few seasons.
Red fruits, toffee, dried herb and orange peel perfume. Medium bodied, light tannin, glossy, hazelnut flavours, even acidity and a pleasant tweak of dried herb bitterness on the finish. Lick of tannin to close, pulls it in nicely. Lacks a bit of depth and complexity, but is well balanced and good to drink."

"No mistaking its appeal. Berried flavour, complexing notes of tobacco leaf and leather, a general savoury/earthy/spiciness and the sweetness of fruit to keep you tipping back for more. Integrated tannin. More or less unresolved on the finish but time will take care of that."

Hewitson Baby Bush Mourvedre 2011
"A very savoury, spicy wine reflecting the vintage, but not anaemic or green; the tannin structure is especially appealing."
Hewitson Baby Bush Mourvedre 2010
"There's lovely depth and mellow appeal in this young-vine mourvedre, which shows black cherry, savoury sanguine earthy notes and a little peppery chocolate too. The palate delivers liquorice and plum flavour, deep yet elegant; fine tannins really perform evenly. Great value here."
