"Perfume of dried herbs and flowers, meat, cherry, mixed berry – not too sweet. Then a medium-weight palate, fresh and fairly savoury but fruit sweet too, fine tannin – really pleasant balance of fruit and acid here. Cherry pips. Clean and long. Top drinking. Cherries on train tracks. What?"

"Complex without being try-hard about it. Gorgeous mix of various berried fruits, licorice, grainy tannin, savoury-smoky notes and clovey oak. It's at the upper end of mid-weight but it's mouthfilling. High quality tannin and length. Warm finish but impressive all round."

Hewitson Miss Harry Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre Cinsault Carignan 2011
"Light to medium red-purple; I'm not sure that cinsaut and carignan are 'traditional' Barossa grape varieties as the label suggests, but Dean Hewitson's attention to detail in the vineyard and winery is obvious in this wine; it is as good as one could hope for at this price from this vintage, but the mid-palate fruit is lacking its usual richness, a simple function of the year."
Hewitson Miss Harry Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre Cinsault Carignan 2010
"Predominantly grenache and shiraz, with small amounts of mourvedre, carignan and cinsaut, sourced from 25 separate vineyard plots, five over 100 years old, half of the remainder over 50 years old. Medium-bodied, there is wonderful tension between the array of predominantly black fruits and the savoury tannins on the finish. The only question is why it is so underpriced."
