Product Description

The Rockburn vineyards are bound on the west by mountains whose seaward slopes receive 5000mm of rain a year while to the east is a barren, moon-like landscape that receives less than 25mm. A blend of fruit from two vineyard sites at Gibbston (loam over river gravel on the slopes above the Gibbston River Valley) and Parkburn (loam over alluvial gravel from a warmer site in the lee of the Pisa range). The 2011 vintage yielded beautiful fruit (selective picking was a must) from each of these sites, which Malcolm Rees Francis and the Rockburn team have simply guided gently through to the bottle with minimal handling. This "hands-off" approach delivers a pure expression of Central Otago to your glass; an expressive nose and deeply fruited palate displaying vibrant notes of red cherry and mocha, and supple, lithe tannins leading into a very long finish. As always this wine shows classic Rockburn elegance, integrity and balance.

The wine was fermented in open-top vats and then barrel aging for 10 months in 100% French Oak (30% new, 30% one & two year old and 40% older wood).
