Product Description

"This is the best Gamay I've ever made..." grins Matthieu as he pours his (100% Cabernet Franc) 2013 Les Granges. He's only half joking! 2013 was (generally) a challenging vintage in the central Loire and the best Chinon are lovely, but clearly lighter. Weather wise, Chinon found itself battered by the same Biblical weather pattern that decimated Vouvray. For openers Baudry lost 50% of the fruit in the La Croix Boissée vineyard. However, and this is a big however, some lovey wines were made, in a plump-fruited/soft-tannin/ younger-drinking style. Just to remind you, Les Granges comes from young vines (10-15-plus years old) planted on alluvial soil and gravel on the terraces of the Crevant terroir near the river Vienne. The grapes are picked by hand, fermentation is at cool temperatures and maturation occurs in a mix of concrete and large wooden vats. This is packed with juicy, floral-noted, clear red and blue fruits and finishes with crunch and perfume. It is intended to be drunk in the first flush of youth; lay back and imagine a delectable Cab Franc/Gamay fusion in your glass. Delicious." Importer's Note

"From gravel, the vines planted on the floor of the valley. Currently en cuve. A great colour here, and plenty of bright, expressive blackcurrant fruit on the nose, all clean and precise. The palate has a soft and supple texture, with a very light application of tannins giving it a very soft feel, with delicate pinpoint acidity. This is soft, polished, rounded and easy to appreciate... It will make a very good vin de soif." Chris Kissack, thewinedoctor.com

Bernard Baudry Les Granges Chinon 2012
"This is always the first Baudry wine released each year. It comes from young vines (10-15-plus years old) planted on alluvial soil and gravel on the terraces of the Crevant terroir near the river Vienne. This is packed with bright, tangy, violet-flecked cherry fruit and is intended to be drunk in the first flush of youth. The grapes are picked by hand, fermentation is at cool temperatures and maturation occurs in a mix of concrete and large wooden vats. The aim is to produce a fresh, fruit-filled wine with less extraction than the other cuvées. Put simply, 2012 is a cracking release: a wickedly racy and tangy wine with juicy red fruits, mineral earthiness, and hints of flowers that dance across the palate and linger on the finish. Pure energy." Importer's Note
