REVIEWS ON SOME PREVIOUS VINTAGES
Kalleske Johann Georg Shiraz 2011
"Johann Georg arrived in SA in 1838, the first of the clan. This wine comes from estate-grown vines planted in 1875, the oldest certified biodynamic vines in the world. It sends a savoury message from the first whiff of the bouquet, with leather, earth and spice running into a finely boned, silky, medium-bodied palate of exceptional length. What a vintage."
97 Points Jame Halliday, Wine Companion

Kalleske Johann Georg Shiraz 2010
"Dense purple-red; the grapes were hand-picked from the vineyard planted in 1875, the wine named to honour Johann Georg Kalleske, who arrived in SA in 1835. The yield of 1 tonne/hectare is obvious in this densely black-fruited wine, with its undercurrent of spicy, savoury, ripe tannins, the French and American oak integrated courtesy of the last phase of primary ferment carried out in barrel. Barossa Valley shiraz at its best."

Kalleske Johann Georg Shiraz 2009
"From a single block of vines planted in 1875, and made in a very small quantity, the product of a single open-top fermenter, finishing that fermentation in French and American oak, where it remained for the next two years. It is very complex and intense, yet little more than medium-bodied, having a tapestry of aromas and flavours similar to Eduard, with great length. How great will the '10 be?"
96 Points Jame Halliday, Wine Companion

"2009 Johann Georg Shiraz is dark purple black in colour. On the nose there are powerful aromatics of bright red and black fruits, floral perfume, briar, cedar, savoury spice, cured meats and sweet herbs. The palate is full-bodied and sophisticated displaying purity of fruit and subtle barrel ferment characters. Stylish and elegant but with great intensity this is a classy Shiraz. Tannins are fine and integrated adding structure and poise. Silky, but solid, this discerning wine is completed by an amazingly lengthy finish. Johann is a superb wine that whilst drinks well upon release will ultimately benefit from a decade or more in the cellar." Winemaker's Note
