Product Description

Vi de la Vila. The village wine is an equal spilt of Cariñena (Carignan) and Garnatxa (Garnacha/Grenache) from vineyards dotted around Torroja. At 366m above sea level, these are some of the highest, old-vine sites in Priorat and even the youngest vines that provide fruit for this blend are more than 50 years old. This cuvée is also the beneficiary of any declassified material from the sites mentioned below. In terms of the so-called winemaking, so little happens there is not much to say! The natural ferment takes place in open-top fermenters with a daily, manual pigeage before the wines are basket-pressed and run by gravity into their maturation vessel. Dominik re-uses hogsheads and Burgundian concrete "oeufs" for the Garnatxa (to preserve its purity) and large foudre for the Carignan. When the wines are ready they are blended and bottled, via gravity, without fining or filtration. These basic methods make up the blueprint for all the Terroir Al Límit wines. No pumps or other technologies are employed. The cellar is as simple as it can be. Stephen Tanzer's comment on last year's Vi de la Vila: "... stains the palate but gives no impression of weight", gives you an idea of the seamlessness and balance that you can also look forward to in this wine. In fact, muscle without weight is a hallmark of the entire range. Dominik noted that the 2011 is the first vintage of this wine to capture what he deems to be the ultimate expression in this cuvée. The wine is super bright with gorgeous crushed raspberry fruits and soaring floral notes while the palate is awash with intoxicating energy and unconcealed terroir-driven freshness.

"(a 50/50 blend of garnacha and carinena, aged for 24 months in 500-liter casks and large wooden vats): Brilliant ruby-red. Heady, seductively perfumed scents of ripe red fruit, sandalwood, Asian spices and floral oils. Sweet, seamless and light on its feet, offering vibrant raspberry and cherry compote flavors with suggestions of rose pastille and cinnamon. Fine-grained tannins add grip to the tangy, gripping, red fruit-dominated finish."
