Product Description

"100% estate grown and produced from vine to bottle by the largest family owned and run producer in Marlborough. Wairau’s vineyard are situated in the best areas of Marlborough north along the Wairau itself and east out towards the ocean. The multiple vineyard sourcing lends complexing nuances not otherwise seen, as does a good amount of vine maturity. Classic lifted white currant and grapefruit notes with some passionfruit and tamarillo pith, powdery florals and waft of stony minerality. Medium weight it is a mouthful of intensity as it bursts forward with grapefruit, guava and white peach; sweet at first the flavours build to a tangy pointed finish thanks to the tart citrus acidity. Great concentration and intensity this year with back of the throat length. Impressive stuff." Importer's Note

REVIEWS ON SOME PREVIOUS VINTAGES

Wairau River Sauvignon Blanc 2013
Interesting nose at first with a few strong elements competing, namely the tinned tropical fruits and the sweaty herbal notes, which are overshadowing the finer mineral element. As you adjust to the predictable varietal fruit explosion you will find a lovely deep spice, almost into the cinnamon range, with acacia wood and a stony minerality that builds in intensity. Quite complex on consideration. The flavour spectrum of the palate mirrors the nose almost exactly. Medium weighted you feel moderate fruit concentration with a slightly more savoury impression than the nose might suggest as the citrus acidity and pithy tamarillo tartness kick in. Certainly on the drier end of the commercial range of Marlborough Sauvignons. It’s a step up in sophistication too.
