This is reared only in tank to preserve purity. Albino Rocca's Dolcetto d'Alba is drawn from a single vineyard in Barbaresco. So it's a very serious location with a first-rate east/south-east exposure for the most part. The vines are also 30-40-years-old and thanks to their maturity, and the sensible yields they offer, this wine offers more intensity and texture than your garden variety of this wine style. It also doesn't hurt that 2017 is a low yielding, outstanding year for both Dolcetto and Barbera. Deeper and more layered than usual, it's sweetly scented with dark cherry and blackberry notes, while the palate is juicy and textured and dripping with the same, freshly-picked fruit notes. It shows the class of this producer and the superb vintage.
