Product Description

"Monts-Damnés (pronounced mon-dannay) is arguably the most renowned vineyard in Chavignol. Drinking some great juice from Monts-Damnés leaves you in little doubt that Chavignol is capable of producing the most textural, mineral, uplifting and sublime whites in all of Sancerre. Boulay's bottling comes from 45 year old vines in one of the steepest inclines of this majestic vineyard, a south facing plot on terres blanches (a white soil of chalky limestone over Kimmeridgian marl). Normally raised in large, old oak casks, in this more opulent year Boulay chose to conduct its élevage entirely in cement cuve. The 2012 makes as strong a terroir statement as any vintage of this wine we have shipped. You can smell the chalkiness a mile from the glass. The resonance of this hillside site is also evident in the chewy texture of the wine, its smoky complexity and its piercing, cord-like length. This is buzzing with tension and energy and will be even better in a year or two." Importers Note

Gerard Boulay Monts-Damnes Sancerre 2010
"Boulay's 2010 Sancerre Monts Damnes is prominently lemony, with piquant rind, black tea, and an aura of chalk dust and oil present already in the nose. At least as dense, compact, firm, and bright as the corresponding regular bottling, this nevertheless picks up a greater diversity of more vivid and succulent fruit elements in the form of white currant, tangerine, and white peach; then finishes with focus and penetration: chalky; zesty; herb-tinged; and with a salty streak serving for saliva inducement. This responded beautifully to time in the air, and I expect it to gain depth and acquire some richness of patina over the next 6-8 years, as well as to keep for several more thereafter."
