Product Description

"The back label mentions that 2012 may be the “vintage of the century”. Long way to go, of course.
Fruit and flavour is excellent. Alcohol warmth is a little more distracting. It tastes of blackberry and asphalt, graphite, salt-bush and cloves. Fruit does the talking; there’s little oak to speak of here, save for the wine’s creamy smoothness. Rusty, earthen tannin adds a rustic kind of sophistication. Balance is good. In a warm-hearted style, this is very good."

"Deep, dark and impressive. Intense, warm-hearted notes of blackberry, asphalt, salt-bush and dried, woody clove. Intensity of fruit is the main game; oak has almost been entirely consumed. And yet rusty, earthen tannin help gives the wine both a minerally and traditional edge."

REVIEWS ON SOME PREVIOUS VINTAGES

Oliver's Taranga Shiraz 2011
Actually fairly forward for the Oliver's style with quite a lot of the red earth, spice and leather that comes with age. Oak spice is adding a lot of accent here but is well done. The fruit just seems a little absent and pre-mature. Does the palate tell you more? Yes it does. Here you have a very soft open-knit structure with sweet creamy dark fruits and bitter chocolate tang and grip. Melt in the mouth tannins. Earthy and leathery again. This is at its peak already so don't hesitate.

"
One of the most deeply coloured shirazs from SA in '11, and foretells the full-bodied palate, full of dark fruits and bitter chocolate, supported by savoury tannins. May react well to cellaring."
