Product Description

"Kate Goodman set the bar pretty high at Punt Road for many years but the 2013 Chardonnay is the first release showing a deft touch from new winemaker Tim Shand. Handpicked and whole bunch pressed; 100% barrel fermented in French oak (25% new) with a portion fermented naturally before 10 months maturation in barrel with some discreet lees stirring to build texture and complexity. It is fresh, varietal and importantly regional in style with rich lemon curd, yellow peach with subtle French oak influence and a hint of five spice. The palate is fullflavoured with a nutty richness balanced by streamlined acidity and extensive length. Broader and more generous as a young wine than usual, it is sure to keep your Chardonnay die hards happy" Importer's Note

REVIEWS ON SOME PREVIOUS VINTAGES

Punt Road Chardonnay 2012
Pale golden straw. Lovely delicate white and yellow floral scented Chardonnay nose with fragrant Meyer lemon and white peach. Complex mix of fruit and oak white spice and white liquorice. Pristine feminine expression. The palate is fuller than the nose suggests but tapers quickly under the control of a youthful, drying acid vein. Flavours never really develop past the tart citrus and under-ripe peach; a good thing. Very fresh and zesty. Nice layers of complexity open up past midway with a touch of sulphite flint, white spice and dried dairy. This taught young thing is a delight to drink now but still a year or two off its peak.

"
Hand-picked, whole bunch-pressed, pressed straight to used French oak for wild yeast fermentation, the remainder settled and matured for 10 months in French oak (25% new). Has considerable texture, and excellent length to the stone fruit/citrus flavours."
