"Wow!.....we can't believe you can get your hands on Pinot this good for this little money! Rua is the 'entry level' offering from Akarua but rivals plenty of wines at much higher price points, it's bursting with wild black cherry, juicy red florals, violet and a hint of oak spice on the nose. Classic Central Otago on the palate it displays the same juicy red and purple fruits the nose suggested, long soft tannins complimented by lovely fresh acidity and savoury highlights. Matt Connell continues to stamp his mark on this region by crafting wines of amazing clarity and depth at every level....bravo!" Importer's Note

REVIEWS ON SOME PREVIOUS VINTAGES

Akarua Rua Pinot Noir 2012
Lighter, more pure red than crimson red colour than previous vintages. The nose is fragrant with a strong dried floral and herbal thread and black pepper seasoning, plus the usual plum, black cherry and boysenberry. Oak spice frames all this. Definitely looks more ‘savoury' on the nose. The palate is medium weighted but not as sweet and plush as the usual Rua offering. There is a lot more structure and savouriness to the 2012, a function of the vintage? Tart red berry fruits with Satsuma plum, boysenberry and layers of savoury spice notes. As usual this has the concentration and complexity of much more expensive examples of Otago Pinot.
