"Opens very stern, decidedly grunty in briar, dried herbs and wet earth scents, but unfurls majestically with time. Savoury, firm across the palate, revealing simple dark fruit characters, but settling into graphite, earth and wet stone-like minerality too. It’s an exciting wine for tannin and strictness but also the layers of fruit impact. Finishes with a lick of gentle sweetness swept away by chalky pucker. So satisfying to see such structure and texture at this price point."

Bannockburn 1314 a.d.Pinot Noir 2011
“It’s a wonderful drink. Spicy, herbal. Sappy fleshed out with sour cherry and rhubarb and complexed by meaty, clovey notes. Fragrant aplenty. If you like Bannockburn pinot noir in general, you will love drinking this. It should age well but it may be at its best as a youngster. It sure does take you on a ride now.”
92 Points, Campbell Mattinson, www.winefront.com.au

The fruit for 1314 a.d. has come from Ann’s Block, a Pinot Noir vineyard planted in 2002 with the MV6, 114 and 115 clones. In low yielding years (a common occurrence at Bannockburn), this fruit has enough personality and “strength” to jostle for a position in the Bannockburn blend. In years such as 2011, a season of slightly cooler temperatures and higher than average rainfall, yields were correspondingly higher than average (though still low by national standards). Although happy with the flavours of the fruit, Glover felt it lacked the horsepower required to become a component of the Bannockburn Pinot Noir. It’s a wine that shows plenty of the 2011 vintage traits, which at Bannockburn translate to charm, lift and perfume. Even though this fruit has been reclassified and the wine released under a new 1314 a.d. label the wine saw 40 per cent whole bunches and spent 3 weeks on skins before being transferred to 3 – 5 year old French barriques for 12 months. In other words it is very much uniquely Bannockburn
