"One of our favourite aspects of Gaillard's wines is their ability to combine intense aromatics and mineral bright freshness with ripe, hedonist textures. Gaillard's Condrieu offers superb examples of such qualities This is a micro-cuvee from two parcels on the slopes of Côte Bellay and Boissey, both of which are covered by a fine soil of decomposing granite. The vines here yielded just 30 hl/ha of pungent Viognier fruit, on average, and the wine spent seven months in oak (20% new). It was very early days when we tasted this but it was already showing all the telltale characteristics of a Gaillard Viognier: the nose suggested small white flowers and white peach and the chiselled palate, which continued the stone-fruit theme, was driven by an undercurrent of smoky, granite-laced minerality that gave way to a fresh, explosive finish. We might add that this is bloody good value for a quality Condrieu." Importer's Note
