Product Description

Who doesn’t love rosé? The Chalmers Rosato is made from mostly Aglianico with a splash of Nero d’Avola and Sagrantino. All three varieties are growing on the prized top block at the Heathcote vineyard which is a complex rocky site with green basalt, ironstone, dolerite and fractured limestone. The block gives a distinct elegance and prettiness to the red varieties grown there, even though these varieties are usually more muscular. The Aglianico portion is fermented in old barriques and the other two are co-fermented in stainless steel to retain freshness. The end result is a serious yet slurpable pale, dry and textural rose.

REVIEWS ON SOME PREVIOUS VINTAGES

The 2012 rosato is 100% Aglianico; vibrant onion skin in hue, it offers pretty rose petal, candied orange and spice aromas and a fleshy, savoury palate with creamy barrel ferment characters that build texture and complexity.  It finishes refreshingly dry with a pleasant tannic lick and lingering hints of red fruit.

“The Chalmers Rosato wine seems to be a shape-shifter of sorts, changing variety to suit season and style. This is 100% aglianico, fermented in barrel with naturally occurring yeast. From Heathcote.

Pale salmon pink colour and pretty aromas leap from the glass. It has that wet rose petal scent with musk sticks, cinnamon/clove and wild red berry fruit overlaid. It’s a touch slippery in texture, just a hint of oiliness, with bright red berry fruit character, neat and lightly sloshed around the palate. There’s some good mandariny acid tension too – it keeps the wine perky. The finish is stony and chalky, whipping things dry. Reset. This feels well crafted and cared for, an excellent summer wine but with substance and detail of mineral, fruit, acid and kind phenolic grippiness. Good stuff.”
