Product Description

Chalmers came out with Australia’s first Vermentino wine in 2004 and it’s since become a trademark line in the range, their ‘go-to’ white. There are now more than 100 winemakers working with the grape across this country and it’s no wonder when it loves the sunshine and makes such delicious wines with ultimate drinkability. Chalmers Vermentino is a truly unique iteration of the Mediterranean grape, a crisp and refreshing drink with white florals, soft stonefruit and a lick of saltiness, perfect for the Australian al fresco lifestyle.

Chalmers Vermentino 2011
The Chalmers family pioneered this versatile Sardinian white variety in Australia releasing Australia’s first home-grown wine from the variety in 2004, a wine that was recently cited by Max Allen in Gourmet Traveller magazine as one of the top 20 Australian wines of the past twenty years. There are now almost 60 producers working with vermentino, growing and crafting some amazing wines from a variety which is clearly thriving in many of Australia’s warmer growing regions.

Delicate yet savoury, the 2011 Chalmers vermentino has a nose of clean florals and wet stones. The palate exhibits minerally acidity and balances white nectarine and citrusy fruit with a zesty, dry finish.

“Briny, lemony lift in the bouquet with a hint of sweet, talcy chalk and pepper.  Brisk and crisp in the palate - again a briny twang and some lemony intensity, but lithe, tight and lean.  Really thirst-slaking in style - you want to neck a heap but know it will go better with something salty or fishy. Great energy too, racing across the palate, finishing with a lemonade-like sweet clip and phenolic crunch.  Not for wine nerds, but for pure refreshing pleasure.  Go on.”

 2011 Vermentino, Mike Bennie, Winefront

“This is so distinctly vermentino and an Australian benchmark for this grape. Brilliantly understood and crafted.”

2010 Vermentino, David Ridge, Adelaide Review

“It is not often that I am left somewhat speechless in the presence of wine… The Chalmers Vermentino however is a wine that had me lost for words. If you have ever enjoyed an Italian wine, then go and buy some of this. If you have ever enjoyed wine at all, go and buy this...now!”
