Product Description

The vintage of 2019 will always be one of particular significance to both myself and Craggy Range. Having arrived just before the vintage, 2019 was the culmination of a long-held aspiration to be able to make wines from sites truly capable of producing world-class wines, for a brand that has the desire to see that through to fruition. The Craggy Range journey was now 20 years old and the combination of vine age and a vintage that will get etched in our short history as one of the greatest we’ve seen in Hawke’s Bay meant that grapes off our vineyard possessed the energy and potential rarely seen before.A wet spring gave way to a dry, warm summer. No disease pressure, long sunlight hours and cool nights; we were destined to obtain the acid/phenolic/flavour tension that I crave.

"Richer, more robust chardonnay than its younger sibling from the kidnappers vineyard. A weighty wine with citrus, grapefruit, fresh baguette, peacherine and spicy oak flavours. Good now, even better in a few years."

Powerful chardonnay of big impact yet sleek lines. Struck match and flint, nougat and toast, a lot of apple/stone fruits in the mix, cedary and cinnamon wood gone large. The wine rolls with firm authority through the palate, oak a feature, acidity too, subdued fruit below this. Should cellar very well and mellow that slick and spice of oak off with time – needs it, for mine. 93+ Points.
