Airlie Bank’s new sparkling is exactly what I would want to drink if I were at a function. Light, fruit-driven and refreshingly dry it is the sort of sparkling you would not tire of through an entire evening. Kate Goodman has put her years of experience at Seppelts to work here to produce this pearler of a fizz. Pale straw with a bronze note it has a nice fine bead. Lifted and floral it shows yellow flowers, fresh apple, pear and citrus, with a hint of flint and white spice. Complexity is achieved with a small addition of reserve wine aged in barrel. Gentle, not aggressive, mousse wakes the taste buds up in readiness for subtle flavours of grapefruit and apple with a little creamy lees complexity. With around 10 grams per litre dosage, it is unusually dry for a sparkling at this price point it finishes with lingering floral and citrus notes.
