Product Description

The emblematic wine from Francis Egly and the one that first brought him international acclaim. It was Michel Bettane, the influential French critic, who encouraged Egly to bottle this single vineyard wine separately and the first vintage was in 1989. As you may be aware, this wine was once the product of a single vintage, but this is no longer the case. Egly has learnt through experience that he is able to express this magnificent terroir more completely when he blends two vintages together. This cuvée was bottled in 2012 after the base vintage had spent close to one year in cask. Then 50% of the blend came from 2010 reserve wines. All of the vinification and ageing was in barrique as always. Dosage is 4 g/L. The fruit comes from old vines in a single terroir known as Les Crayères. The vines here were planted in 1946, so are now over 70 years old.

"Dense, full-bodied and voluptuous, with all of the richness of the old-vine coming through, the Crayères is fabulous. Red cherry, Mirabelle plum, dried flowers and spice notes fill out the wine's ample frame effortlessly. Ample and creamy on the palate, with soft curves, the Crayères, also has more than enough vibrancy to develop beautifully in bottle for many years to come. These old vines date back to 1946 and 1947 and confer notable gravitas. Disgorged December 2017. Dosage is 2 grams per liter." 95 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com, July 2018

"It epitomises the golden sunlight, glowing warmth and magnificent mineral expression of Egly-Ouriet. The mineral character of the site speaks articulately in softly salty tones that will stir the depths of your soul." 97 points, Tyson Stelzer, Decanter Magazine, October 2015
